DUNE Opera Pierrot Lunaire

DUNE is an interactive public artwork made of thousands of LED fibers that respond to the sound and movement of passing visitors. This fusion of nature and technology explores the connection between urban space, people, and the environment.

As a highly responsive artwork, DUNE reacts to sounds and gestures, inviting visitors to become an integral part of the artwork. DUNE blurs the boundaries between natural and built environments, encouraging viewers to rethink their relationship with the spaces around them.

DUNE offers a poetic glimpse into the potential harmony between technology and nature, where human presence brings the artwork to life. This dynamic interaction, referred to by Daan Roosegaarde as 'techno-poetry,' merges human experience with technology to create a living, breathing piece of art.

Exhibited internationally in museums and public spaces, DUNE captivates audiences worldwide, fostering social connections through a shared interaction with the landscape.

DUNE is the winner of the World Technology Award (USA), the Design for Asia Award, and the China Most Successful Design Award.

2006-2012. DUNE is a modular system measuring 100 cm in length, 50 cm in width, with variable heights. It consists of hundreds of fibers, LEDs, sensors, speakers, interactive software, and electronics, scalable to large landscapes while using minimal electricity.

Collaborations include the Netherlands Media Art Institute in Amsterdam, TATE Modern London, Rotterdam City of Architecture, CBK Rotterdam, Mudam Luxembourg, Sydney Biennale, and Scanlan & Theodore.
