INTIMACY
High-tech garments turn transparent.
INTIMACY is a fashion project that explores the interplay between people and technology through high-tech garments made of smart e-foils and liquid crystals. These materials enable the garments to change in transparency based on interactions, such as an increasing heartbeat, revealing more as the wearer becomes excited about someone. The garments shift from white to transparent or black to transparent, creating a dynamic and sensual play of disclosure.
This innovative design challenges traditional fashion by merging technology with textile art, blurring the lines between public and private, visibility and concealment. The result is a striking visual display that captures the essence of modern, interactive fashion.
INTIMACY 1.0 and 2.0 are standout pieces crafted from leather and smart e-foils, designed with female fashion designers. These wearable dresses have garnered international acclaim, solidifying INTIMACY's position as a groundbreaking project in the fashion world.
By integrating technology with design, INTIMACY transforms clothing into a medium for personal expression and emotional interaction.
INTIMACY is winner of the Core77 2012 Design Awards and China's Most Successful Design Award.
INTIMACY (2010-2011) features black and white dresses, each 100 cm long and 40 cm wide, incorporating smart foils, wireless technologies, liquid crystals, electronics, LEDs, copper, and other media. This self-commissioned project by Studio Roosegaarde was designed in collaboration with guest designers Anouk Wipprecht and Maartje Dijkstra at V2_.
Daan Roosegaarde: "Technology is used here not merely functional but also as a tool to create intimacy as well as privacy on a direct, personal level which in our contemporary society, is becoming increasingly important."
INTIMACY has been showcased at a variety of international venues, including the V2_Lab Show in Rotterdam, Kent State University Museum in the USA, 3rd Art & Science International in Beijing, and MQ Summer of Fashion in Vienna.
