WINDLICHT shows the beauty of green energy by connecting windmill blades with light. Roosegaarde made this work to give a positive image of green wind energy and create a play of dancing lines of light.

For Daan Roosegaarde, windmills are a perfect example of Dutch innovation. Inspired by Kinderdijk (the traditional Dutch windmills from 1740), Roosegaarde wants to reconnect the new windmills of today with our landscape whilst celebrating the beauty of green energy.

Special software and tracking technology detect the windmill blades rotating at 280 km per hour. A custom-developed LED system and software connect the blades with the rotating line of light. Visitors could tune into radio channel WINDLICHT 105.3 FM to hear the stories behind the artwork. WINDLICHT’s dancing lines of light attract a large number of audiences to look and mesmerize.
