Windlicht

WINDLICHT highlights the beauty of green wind energy by connecting windmill blades with light. Advanced software and tracking technology synchronize rotating blades, which reach speeds up to 280 km/h, with LED lights, creating glowing lines that dance across the sky.

For Daan Roosegaarde, windmills embody Dutch innovation and sustainability. Inspired by the iconic Kinderdijk windmills from 1740, Roosegaarde’s WINDLICHT project seeks to reconnect modern wind turbines with the Dutch landscape, celebrating the elegance of green energy.

By highlighting the beauty and functionality of contemporary wind turbines, Roosegaarde bridges the past and the future, offering a poetic vision of renewable energy in harmony with nature.

The dynamic display of WINDLICHT captivated large audiences, transforming ordinary wind turbines into a spectacle of wonder and awe.

WINDLICHT is winner of the Graphite Pencil Design for Public Space and the D&AD Awards UK.
