SPARK
Organic fireworks as a sustainable celebration.

SPARK reimagines traditional celebrations by replacing polluting fireworks and balloons with a sustainable alternative. Using design and technology, it features thousands of biodegradable light sparks, inspired by fireflies and stars, silently carried by the wind to inspire reflection and wonder.
Premiered in Bilbao, SPARK transformed the central park into a luminous cloud, inviting people to connect with nature and each other. Following its debut, SPARK embarked on a world tour, captivating millions of visitors across 15 countries.
Organic fireworks SPARK illuminate the city as a sustainable and animal-friendly celebration, offering a new way to uphold traditions while promoting sustainability.
Daan Roosegaarde: "Traditional fireworks create ten times more air pollution, and my dog goes crazy. I started to wonder how we could modernize the tradition of celebrating. That was the beginning of SPARK."

Winner of the Peer Award of Excellence at Lux Futurum in Shanghai 2025, Dutch Creativity Awards 2022 and three Lovie Awards, including the People’s Lovie Winner.

The Dogs of SPARK — Animal Friendly Fireworks
SPARK reimagines fireworks for a new era — biodegradable lights drift silently across the night sky. No loud bangs. No frightened dogs. Only wonder. “My dog goes crazy during traditional fireworks,” says artist Daan Roosegaarde. “So I wondered: how can we celebrate differently? That was the beginning of SPARK."
